Copper Onion Debuts Un-Commonly Good Bar

2014 looks promising if Copper Commons, the new bar from the Copper Onion crew is any indication. With joints like this and Bar X's Beer Bar opening in a few weeks and within spitting distance, finding craft cocktails, good food and a bit of danger off-Broadway will be as easy as clicking your heels. What I love most is that these are risk taking, inventive atmospheres that cater to the growingly hip dwellers of downtown Salt Lake. And they're damn hungry for it.

I happened to frequent Copper Commons twice last Friday. Once for after work cocktails and again later in the evening to meet up with a friend from New York, (Brooklyn to be exact). Needless to say, she was impressed. Sexy, smart decisions were made on the part of owner Ryan Lowder and designer Rachel Hodson, who said this was her first start to finish remodel. Perfected low lighting sets the scene once the sun goes down, with intricately lit copper pipe shelving behind the bar, salvaged antique low bar tables and the coolest 1800's era glass panels, which were shipped from Philadelphia and re-mixed/re-set into the waitress station wall and door. Hand painted and aged signage complete the subtle branding throughout. Stunning.
