One of Those Sorta-Secret Joints...

Washington Square Cafe is one of those sorta-secret joints you don't want too many people to find out about because it's so perfect the way it is. Manager Liberty Valentine and chef Mary Catrow put their spin on classic cafe staples, from basic breakfast offerings to a mean Monte Cristo sandwich. But localvore, organic and vegetarian ingredients abound. Their tomato soup is some of the best in the city and they push avacados like they are going out of style. You just have to find it's hideout underneath the landmark City & County building.

My little downtown gang and I have watched them grow and evolve over the past three or four years and it's so gratifying to see. They've got a wonderful attitude about their business and I think it shines through in the service and food. One can only hope Washington Square becomes one of those must visit SLC spots in the years to come.

See photos of their food. And here's a nice Slug Magazine review.
